"Hong Kong Tea Culture" Special Stamps
Issue Date: 9 September 2001
On 9 September 2001, Hongkong Post will issue "Hong Kong Tea Culture" Special Stamps. The aroma of Jasmine tea has been added to these stamps during the printing process, making them the first-ever scented stamps issued in Hong Kong. Just a few scratches on the stamp, the aroma of jasmine will be released.
Besides, this set of special stamps illustrates the diversity of tea culture in Hong Kong:
$1.3 Gongfu tea is a popular style of tea preparation in the Fujian province and the Chaozhou area in southern China. The name Gongfu tea is a reflection of the immense skills and effort in its preparation.
$2.5 A cup of smooth Hong Kong-style tea is blended by black tea leaves and superb tea-making skills. A silk-like cotton bag is then used to filter the tea before milk and sugar are added.
$3.1 As part of Hong Kong's culinary culture, "yum cha" (drinking tea) and dim sum are inseparable.
$5 Making a pot of Chinese tea always starts with cleaning and washing the teapot with boiling water. Teacups are also warmed with hot water and arranged in a circle for pouring the brew in a continuous circular motion, to ensure the taste of tea is perfectly balanced.
"Hong Kong Tea Culture" Special Stamps include mint stamps, stamp sheet, presentation pack, postage prepaid picture card, serviced first day cover (available at 38 philatelic offices on issue day only).
Sales Arrangement:
On 9 September 2001, all post offices will be opened from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hand-back service will be provided at all post offices on 9 September 2001.
All stamp products will be available at all post offices starting from 9 to 22 September 2001. Starting from 24 September 2001, the stamp products will be available at the 38 philatelic offices only.
